Part 5: Reasons divorced people warn you to not get married

One of the common ways people try to convince me and others that we shouldn’t get married is by reminding us of the divorce rate: 50% of all marriages end in divorce.

When you hear that, does that make you think, “No point in getting married”?

Being the pragmatic woman that I am, my instinct is to agree. After all, the only surefire way to avoid divorce is to never get married.

My next instinct is to question conventional wisdom.

Does the high divorce rate mean that we shouldn’t bother risk getting married because the marriage is quite likely to fail? Or is there something more to this number?

I decided to probe things a bit more rather than take this number at face value.

The first thing I checked was the weather.
