Ergh--I wouldn't want to mis-represent the orienteering guy as not having a personality--he certainly did. But I have found it comforting when I read pieces like, '10 things uber successful people have in common' and one of the things is that they read a lot, so that makes them interesting conversationalists. Makes me think that my youth was not wasted:):)
