You make such great points here! I so hope that readers read your comment here as it gives even more nuance to what I've written. It's certainly good for a guy (well, all of us!) to learn the specific wants/needs of the person he cares about, but no one should expect him (or us!) to learn those right away. Definitely give him time to learn. Hopefully she can communicate her needs in a positive fashion, and hopefully he will actively ask and attempt to learn as well.
