When we like someone, how do we know if we’re going to be compatible?

I’ve read a ton on the topic, but the best way to know if someone is compatible isn’t by reading yet another listicle to see if the person checks all the items on the list.

Instead, I developed the Turtle Test of Relationship Compatibility to help us know.

Here, I’ll show you how I developed the Turtle Test and why I think it helps winnow out the people we’re not compatible with.

If the person you’re interested in or dating passes the Turtle Test, you’ll know to keep developing the relationship. If the person doesn’t pass the test, you’ll know to chuck the person and move on.

How I Developed the Turtle Test

A guy and I were both brand-new professors, so we navigated the ‘new professor’ struggles together.

Almost every day at lunchtime we ate in each other’s offices, bemoaning the latest irritations. On his way to the gym, he’d stop by to grab me so we could drive there together.
