I think ‘forever’ is formidable, too. I imagine vows like “I super like you, so let’s just vow to keep hanging out,” and then one day you realize it’s been forever. “Oh! We did it! We lasted forever!” Forever just sort of happened accidentally without setting it as a goal. It was just sort of a by-product of being with the person you prefer to be with. I think, instead of vowing to stay together forever, we vow to be kind and considerate and thoughtful. Then if we actually stick to THAT vow, forever will likely occur. Who wouldn’t stay forever with someone who’s consistently kind.
