Interesting points, Jesse! A dad once told me that he was sad that his high school son only wanted to play video games and didn't want to go hiking with him as a dad-son activity. But he admitted that he created this situation himself because when his son was young, he and the mom loved that his kid played video games because it kept the kid out of their hair:) So generally, I like to wonder, "Why did the guys start playing video games in the first place?" Sometimes the answer is, "Mom/Dad used the video games as babysitters so the kid was quiet and not being annoying" or "Mom/Dad worked so the kid needed to stay locked safely at home, not going outside where it's dangerous when the parents couldn't be home (plus don't want to get investigated for leaving kids at home alone) so he ended up playing video games to occupy himself." Sometimes Mom/Dad were so tired from work they didn't want to take their kids outdoors so the kid just didn't get much exposure to the outdoors. They didn't get to go outdoors much so now they don't go outdoors much.
Now I am wondering about your origin story: How did you become a "computer guy", Jesse?
