The bastardization of Myers-Briggs personality types in dating
Maybe in your post-divorce life, you don’t trust your own judgment when it comes to picking a partner. After all, your poor judgment is the reason you’re out half your retirement and are paying alimony while living in one of those dingy apartment complexes full of divorced men who got financially ravaged in their divorces, too.
You didn’t know that you and your ex would turn out to be so incompatible. You’re paying dearly for not knowing.
This time around, you’re being extra careful to suss out your future partner’s nature, so you start checking out the personality types of people you date.
Maybe that’s why I’ve noticed this trend in online dating: In their profiles, people declare the four-letter combo that reveals which of the 16 personality types they are, according to the Myers-Briggs test.
Unfortunately, knowing people’s personality types may not prevent the horrors of your past relationships from happening again.
Here, I’ll give you three reasons to be cautious about using personality types for dating purposes.
