"Trust that people are basically decent"--That's my thinking as well. It doesn't mean we're so ignorant that we don't know there are plenty of people who aren't decent, but we don't live indoors, shackled by fear of the people who aren't decent. I've had so many experiences roadtripping where in retrospect people say, "that was dangerous!" Yet...nothing dangerous happened. It's not that I don't know something dangerous could happen. I'm just willing to take the risk. I do understand that sometimes people have to stop taking as many risks, for example, when they have kids depending on them for food. In that case, maybe they need to cut out the motorcycling and quasi-dangerous activities. But...otherwise, it's a decision we make, a risk we weigh.
