Looking for a man with good bones

I’ve been in the market to buy a house, and the process isn’t pretty.

Every day, I get on the house-for-sale apps, seeing which houses came up for sale overnight. I start with the picture. If the picture is appealing, I read the details.

Of course that reminds me way too much of the dating apps that many of us in our middle age use to find dates and relationship partners. So then I wondered: What house matches what I want in a relationship? How has that changed as I’ve aged?

Turns out, there are other similarities between house hunting and dating for those of us who are middle-aged.

How do we know if the bones are good?

One of the big pieces of advice I keep hearing is to only buy a house with ‘good bones’.

I get the concept. I kind of know that I should try to find a house that has a fairly new roof, furnace, and hot water heater. I know there needs to be no sketchiness related to structure or foundation, and water damage is a reason to walk away no matter how much I looovvveee the house.

The problem is, in the current seller’s market where I live, no one allows inspections…
