It’s OK To Be a Side Piece in These 5 Situations

I have written three pieces that involve the topic of cheating, from a guy who almost cheated on me, to several dads who were cheated on, to a friend who was cheated on by the guy I introduced her to.

Generally, these stories portray the people involved in cheating as ‘sleazy’.

Recently, though, a fellow writer prompted me to re-think my views on cheating.

Here, I present my initial, rigid view of cheating, then show how an exercise about side pieces helped me expand my view.

Closed-minded About Cheating

I have never cheated.

Well, I did once. There was one time I walked on the beach with a guy. We kissed. One kiss. I immediately left the beach, drove to the house of the guy I had been dating for two months, confessed, and broke up.

I never saw the guy I kissed again. I just didn’t feel right about it.

I learned that I’m a lightweight when it comes to guilt. I take one sip, and I’m a sloppy mess.

I learned that the way for me to prevent myself from cheating was to not put myself in the position of temptation.
