Divorced people have warned me that I shouldn’t re-marry (see Part 1 and Part 2 of this series).

Many were financially trashed in their divorces, so they want to help me avoid the same fate.

Plus, I’ve seen how much some male colleagues had to pay out each month because of divorce, and I was quite mystified about why they were having to pay so much. They believed they were paying so much because their ex-wives were conniving, greedy women; divorce lawyers were shyster; and the government unfairly sided with women in divorce.

This made me wonder: Why was divorce so dang expensive for them? By learning this, I could get a better feel for whether the price of divorce is too high to risk getting married.

Here, I’ll present five reasons that divorce can be expensive. Along the way, we’ll see why it may be a good thing that Lady Justice and the government are involved in divorce settlements.
